Incorporated in 1963, the Broward County community of Tamarac gets its unusual name from the developer who acquired much of the local land early in that decade. Kenneth Behring’s car wash chain, Car-A-Mat, built his fortune. The business name spelled backward yields Tamarac. Originally an active adult community, Tamarac now refers to itself as “The City for Your Life,” speaking to the community’s quality of living and appeal across all age groups.
Residents of Tamarac and other communities in Broward County know that they can call on the nursing home abuse and neglect attorneys at Freeman Injury Law, when the skilled care facilities they’ve chosen for loved ones fail to deliver on their promise of care.
Whether through indifference, poor management, understaffing or lack of training, nursing home staff may leave helpless residents without the degree of care and attention they need in order to maintain their well-being and avoid physical or emotional damage. When that harm occurs, the nursing home may be liable for negligence. When physical, emotional, financial or other harm is intentionally inflicted, the victim suffers abuse.
According to figures from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, more than 37,000 complaints about nursing homes are received nationwide in a year’s time. Neglect and abuse constitute about one in five of those complaints. Officials confirm that they cite more than 90% of the nation’s nursing homes yearly for violations of safety and health standards. Clearly there is significant cause for family members to be concerned for their frail loved ones’ well-being.
Regular visitors to nursing home residents are the best detectors of potential problems with care. The Tamarac nursing home negligence and abuse lawyers in our firm urge visitors to be observant and to learn the signs of abuse and neglect before such problems as infections, falls, sepsis, gangrene, bedsores, malnutrition, dehydration and other complications lead to life-threatening conditions. When abuse or neglect is suspected, talk with facility administrators. If your concerns aren’t addressed, call our elder abuse attorneys for a free consultation.
