Windermere is a small town – and many hope to preserve that feel as much as possible. In 1990, there were just 1,300 people that called this place home. Today, it’s a town of approximately 3,200 people that is expected to expand to 4,000 – and counting – by 2025.
Located on an isthmus between a number of lakes in the Lake Butler chain, town leaders have been working to accommodate – and encourage – this growth by annexing nearby vacant land and repurposing vacant agricultural lots already in its borders. Officials were also successful in a recent push to annex the affluent Butler Bay from Orange County, gaining millions in property tax revenue. However, residents have stood firmly against developing more housing, citing the already-congested roads and a desire to maintain ample green space.
Still, a certain level of expansion seems inevitable, and the “Town Center District” has been designated for use strictly by: Business and professional offices, government offices, banks, churches, personal services (i.e., salons, galleries, gyms, studios, etc.), restaurants and bakeries (fast-food prohibited), light retail (bike shops, household goods, bookstores, antiques, specialty fashion, etc.) and some residential. These restrictions, it is hoped will help the town preserve its appeal for residents, visitors and workers. Prioritization of non-motorized forms of transport, such as biking and walking, is also important, as only a few roads in the town are actually paved.
Even as some residents seek to slow the internal growth of the town, there is no stopping the booming expansion of outside regions, such as Orange County. Millions of visitors flock to the area every single year just to visit the globally-renowned theme parks. There are also numerous convention centers, sports arenas and concert venues that are major attractions. All of this provides an economic benefit to the region, but it can also pose certain risks.

Personal Injury in WindermereThe nature of each personal injury case in Windermere is going to vary significantly depending on what happened, who was involved and the extent of the damages.
There are many different causes of personal injury. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports unintended injuries cost us more than $400 billion annually in this country, with the major causes being:
While the term “accident” is used to describe many of these scenarios, the fact of the matter is the vast majority of these incidents occur simply because someone – or some entity – failed to take the proper precautions or use reasonable care.
Increasingly, we have drivers who are more interested in updating their social media accounts on their smartphones than paying attention to the road ahead.
We have irresponsible gun owners who fail to lock up their firearms in a place where curious children can’t gain access. We have store owners who fail to check to make sure spills are quickly cleaned up or items on store shelves are safely stacked. We have doctors who fail to abide by the applicable standard of care in rendering treatment or diagnoses to their patients. We have nursing home owners/ operators who fail to properly staff their facilities to make sure residents are receiving good care.
When the actions – or inaction – of someone else results in your injury or the untimely loss of a loved one, you should not be expected to shoulder the cost of those medical expenses or lost wages. In many situations, you may be entitled to recover those costs, as well as compensation for the pain and suffering you and your family have endured and future lost earnings resulting from the injury.
